The circular firing squad of intersectionality never fails to provide mirth.

And just a small correction: Penny Wong doesn't have any children, although her lover has two.

Sad to say for you, dearies, nobody cares. SSM got done, it’s out of the way, we have moved on.

The vote was 48% yes, 32% no and 20% did not vote.

Have you got any statistics to support the "against Australia's epidemic of spousal violence" statement? I live in a country where domestic violence is the norm and Australia is nothing like that.

It will be to Labor’s enduring shame that the Liberals got the postal vote up and the resulting Yes vote. Labor cynically fought against any form of vote being arranged by the Liberals and also did not legislate in favour of same sex marriage when in Govt.

There was actually little debate and no intelligent debate. Those opposing were united in their inability to put across a coherent argument against. It was reduced to a question of love (how can you argue against that) and supposed equality and any other view of heterosexual marriage and its historical, societal, biological and, dare I say it, religious context was pretty much ignored if not negated. Heterosexual and homosexual unions are different in many ways if not valid in their own way. A union which can produce children and a biological lineage is STILL the cornerstone of our society - but for how long. My major concern, however, was how shrill and intolerant the YES campaign was. This was demonstrated by the homogeneous voice of homosexuals. I do not recall one homosexual publically announcing their opposition.  Does this not appear as odd to anyone?  It defies all reason and is indicative of the power and nature of the fascistic LGBTQ lobby who have been very successful in promoting the interests of what is a small minority above the long term interests of the majority.  I await the name calling.

I would suggest that there was a coherent argument from the ‘no’ camp but that many simply didn’t listen to it.
The national press club addresses would be a good start.
Thankfully a parliamentary act can and never will define who loves one another.
I agree completely with everything you said after the second sentence :)
The only names I have for you are considered and intelligent.
Joanne
David, I think only you and I watch the National Press Club debates.

Alan Jones voiced his opposition...and yet another reason why the left wing press hate his guts.

My homosexual friends were of mixed views on the question. The younger more in favour, the older wishing it would go away.

How many same-sex marriages have been celebrated in Australia since the Marriage Act was changed? How many civil partnerships have broken up?

Lance
During the campaign I was wondering how many gays would regard marriage to a person of the same sex as a real option. I figured the number would be extremely small, so within an hour of receiving my ballot paper it was back in the post with my No vote. I'm sure that in the first couple of months after the legalisation of gay marriage there was a big rush, but how many such marriages have been performed since then. The whole thing was a waste of time and money.
David
According to the last census there were 46,000 same sex couples in Australia - so <1% of all couples.
From what I heard there was an initial flurry then not much after that.
I wonder how many have realised it doesn’t offer any legal protections over and above a civil union or de facto relationship yet.

I think the whole SSM thing is a cyclical fad. No one talks about the 80's and 90's when the feminists and lefties were raging against marriage. It was an archaic patriarchal institution designed to subjugate women. Why should women be given away at the alter like chatal? Why should they lose their identity by giving up their family name?  How dare the church claim sex before marriage a sin or living together outside marriage a sin and intrude in our lives? Children need hyphenated surnames and should take both parents names (no one bothered to see where this would end up in. Few generations time - 8 hyphenated surnames later - imaging filling in forms with your name on them?). It went on and on

id like to know what changed and why gays and lesbians could no longer live without marriage

Tony Abbott reminded people of this.
They claimed not to know what he was talking about.
Goldfish memories.
